Places to visit in Alora

Museo Municipal Rafael Lería

The memory of Álora is kept in the Rafael Lería Municipal Museum, a magnificent place to learn about the history and artistic heritage of Álora. It is located in the Escuela de Cristo, a building annexed to the Parroquia de la Encarnación, in the Plaza Baja de la Despedía. Possibly it was the chapel of the disappeared San Sebastián Hospital.

Castillo de Álora

The Castle of Álora is an Arab fortress of Phoenician origin, located on the Cerro de las Torres. It was built by the Arabs, during the Middle Ages, although its origins are Phoenician and Roman. It was declared a national monument in 1931.

Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación

It is the second largest church in Malaga, after the Cathedral. Its construction lasted almost the entire 17th century, between 1600 and 1699, while its ornamentation, with paintings, altarpieces and plasterwork, dates from the 18th century.

Molino Bachiller y Aljibe Árabe

The place is known by the older people of Álora as Posada de Subires, the surname of the last owner who ran an inn in the first half of the 20th century. The name of the mill comes from the first owner, Bachelor Gonzalo Pérez, a very influential person in Álora in the 16th century, the century to which the oil mill belongs. The cistern is one of the elements that make up the Mill.
